Riverblade releases new version of automated code analysis tool
Riverblade are pleased to announce that version 2.0 of their integrated code analysis product Visual Lint is now available.
Visual Lint integrates the industry standard PC-Lint code analysis tool within the Microsoft Visual Studio and Visual C++ development environments. Since its first release in November 2005, Visual Lint has brought automated PC-Lint code analysis to Microsoft Visual Studio and Visual C++ developers in a way never before seen in any mainstream code analysis product. Rather than spending time waiting for slow manual analysis operations to complete, Visual Lint allows developers to get on with what they do best - writing code. Analysis results are collected in the background without interrupting the developer, and presented in straightforward, easy to interpret displays.
Visual Lint 2.0 builds on that success by making the analysis experience even more streamlined and effective. Among the benefits provided by the new release are faster solution loading, new graphical displays, more detailed reporting, include file dependency tracking, improved compatibility with the Intel C++ Compiler and with projects using Visual Studio environment variables and custom command lines.
Visual Lint 2.0 also includes a new product edition (Visual Lint Enterprise Edition) developed to meet the needs of corporate development teams with detailed analysis customisation and reporting requirements. Among the benefits provided by the Enterprise Edition are more detailed reporting capabilities, a new analysis history display and advanced configuration options such as the ability to preprocess the project analysis configuration and store analysis configurations directly with each project rather than with the enclosing solution.
Include file dependency tracking allows Visual Lint 2.0 to determine exactly which implementation files are affected by a lint issue detected in any header file. When a header file is edited within the development environment, any implementation files which directly or indirectly include it can now be automatically re-analysed without user intervention.
Visual Lint 2.0 also features far more detailed HTML Reports than its predecessors. As well as including information on the number of issues in each project and file within the solution, the new reports can also include charts which illustrate exactly which PC-Lint issues have been identified, as well as detailed breakdowns of exactly which issues were seen, and where.
Visual Lint supports Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2002, Visual Studio .NET 2003, Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008 as well as the still often used Visual C++ + 6.0 and eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0.
